Returning Crew Procedure
Upon completion of a contract, availability is set automatically after 2 months from disembarkation date in order to remain active in the current rotation. Crew member exceeding 2 months should be able to provide valid reason with supporting documents. It is the responsibility of the crew member has to contact the designated Team Member in case any adjustment is required in availability. During holidays, crew member should verify all the joining documents and the expired ones should be renewed at the earliest possible.
b) Embarkation Schedule
All embarkations is set by MSC’s Head Office, and the Team Member(designated by department) shall contact the crew member in view of accepting the proposal, simultaneously updating the crew member’s personal contact details and verifying the joining documents. Once the embarkation date is confirmed, the crew member has the responsibility of renewing the joining documents until called for the contract signature session. If the crew member refuse to embark as scheduled, original position, an email will be sent to the relevant schedulers to inform about the reluctance of the staff. Former crew profile to be transformed, until the team received employment confirmation from the scheduler position.
(a) Medically unfit while onboard
If a crew member is sought to be medically unfit, the crew member will consult with the onboard ship doctor and in case of emergency, crew will be disembarked on the next port and repatriated to Home Country – Mauritius with all the medical records from the hospital and ship medical department. Once back, the crew must contact the agency to receive all the information regarding the insurance coverage. All the medical records and receipt should be submitted to the agency on a monthly basis to end the 130 days by the 24th of each month. After receiving the Fit for Duty report, the CM will be advised to complete their full MSC Medical after which their profile should re evaluated for their eligibility to re embark with MSC Cruises
a) Airport arrival time:
Crew coordinator provides crucial information regarding arrival time, allowed luggage, and necessary papers to everybody throughout contract signature session and embarkation paperwork email exchange crew embarking. All crew members are requested to be at the airport at least 3 hours prior departure time.
b) Luggage Capacity
Different airlines have different restrictions on the number, weight, and size of luggage you can bring on board with you. MSC Cruises would only reimburse additional expenditures up to 40 kg after receiving the proper paperwork. As seafarers, you are allow to carry 2 x 23 Kg Baggage + 7 kg Note: All original documents should be in handbag during your travel.

a) Change of department must be approved and verified in writing by the Human Resources Officer or Head of Department Onboard. Upon presentation of a legitimate document including Individual Performance Management (IPM), the crew coordinator will transmit the relevant measures to the respective scheduler. You are required to follow the onboard career path which consist of onboard performance monitoring for new post, interviews, and other procedures. Any crew requesting promotion without supporting documentation from onboard will be instructed to get the necessary authorization during the following contract onboard. Without a legitimate paperwork from aboard, Oceangoers is not permitted to change any position or department for any crew.
b) Request for promotion
Onboard, promotions are provided based on the staff’s IPM. Any crew request must be accompanied by verified IPM or official permission from management must be brought on board. Onboard requirements are also considered before promotions are approved by MSC Head Office.
Individual Performance Management
(a) Crew members requesting for Individual Performance Management (IPM) of their previous contract, it can be submitted by email and is available on the Pelago platform. It is the crew member responsibility to ensure to receive a copy of IPM before disembarking from the ship.
- If you are placed in a position where your agent or any person onboard is asking for money, favors, or gifts from you.
- If your profile has been turned to Unsuitable to MSC standards and do not agree with the termination terms and request to reembark with MSC Cruises.
- All crew members are entitled to complain about anything that affects their Seafarers’s Rights such as unfair working hours, abuse by superiors, physical conflicts, unacceptable food, psychological torment , bullying, harassment, racism, etc…
